Easter Morning
It rained last night. The air smells great, but it's a little cold for laps right now. Kristi's sleep was a lot like last night, good at first. She has a little bit of a pulmonary edema. Heart failure isn't the problem. She is now 16lbs heavier than when she came in, another four pounds over the last 24 hours. It's all fluid. They are going to give her a diuretic. This will help her eliminate some of this water, and free her lungs up for breathing. That, and her cloths will start fitting again, which is very important right now (Not even the "fat pants" fit). All of the extra fluid in her body is pooling up in her lungs. Sitting-up helps because it draws the fluid down and away from her chest. She will be starting the next round of chemo soon. The Ara-C is a 24 hour drip at a 41 ml/hr rate. As soon as one bag is drained another begins. The X-ray shows the Hickman IV, it enters the body on the left side (of the image), just below the collar bone. The inputs are just above right atrium. The X-ray should also show some additional fluid in the lungs. However, these are few days old already. The diuretic is working, she looks less puffy already. Her "output" jumped from 1-200 ml to around 600 ml. She says it's pretty satisfying. I can imagine.
