New Stuff

In the forrest of drips, a new vine has appeared. This one was specially prepared by the NIH as an investigational treatment. It is in a special bag to prevent exposure to light. This is the Mylotarg, Gemtuzumab Ozogamicin is its scientific name. Sounds like an HP Lovecraft demigod. Probably no less scary. It's a one time deal, and a quick drip. Though, not quite as quick as the Daunomyicin "push".

The white coats are reporting some abnormal liver function, likely due to the Daunomyicin. This treatment phase is over, so they are expecting her liver function to drop to normal. However, Mylotarg also comes with liver side-effects. These effects are different in nature. They are waiting to start the Mylotarg until they get the go-ahead from the Hematologist. Kristi's white blood cell count is down around 500 now. This is very low, and indicates a good response to the treatment. This is an important threshold with respect to visitors. She is entering neutropenia, so everyone around her needs to be healthy and very clean. They are watching her closely for anything, even small as a cut or tummyache.

... Looks like the liver function issues shouldn't be a problem. They are starting the Mylotarg. I might also note that this dose is one third of the common clinical dose.
